40 years - 40 natural reserves – Breitwies
Between Hoffelt and Antoniushof, the Trëtterbach forms an extraordinary S-bend in this open wetland. The Foundation owns about 8 ha of land here.
Between Hoffelt and Antoniushof, upstream of the old mill "Neimillen", the "Trëtterbach" forms an extraordinary S-bend, pierces the rocky ridges of the "Welfraulei" and the "Moutschekaul", and receives the "Sporbaach" from the right, and then continues in the direction of Neimillen. The Foundation owns about 8 ha of land on this site. The "Trëtterbaach" is a stream that is close to its natural state.
This is still the case today for many sections, but other sites, such as Breitwies, have been rectified to facilitate mowing of the hay meadows.
This stream area had long been known to local birders as home to rare open-water bird species. Unfortunately, they saw the Breitwies pastures reforested with spruce trees in the 1980s, causing their habitat to disappear. In 2012, the Foundation started to rehabilitate the site, among other things through the LIFE project Eislek: deforestation of the spruce trees, restoration of the wet pasture, renaturation of the "Trëtterbaach", forestry transformation of the slopes to deciduous forests.
