40 years - 40 natural reserves – Emeschbaach

The Emeschbaach reserve is 47.98 hectares in total and is divided into agricultural areas.

In 2010, the Hëllef fir d'Natur Foundation acquired a large group of intensively farmed plots in the Emeschbaach area, in a landscape without ecological structures. The objective was to cover them and to support an agriculture respectful of our environment and our natural resources and to develop a richly structured landscape with a mosaic of habitats.
In addition, two conservatory orchards of 230 fruit trees (115 different old varieties of plum and cherry trees) are operated in the form of agroforestry. The spacing of the fruit trees makes it possible to combine them with ground crops. This ancient practice has disappeared from our landscapes although it has great advantages in terms of biodiversity and agronomic yield. The Ardennes landscape is enhanced by the creation of new habitats and ecological corridors (hedges, solitary trees, copses, ponds, herbaceous strips, wasteland, etc.). The reserve is home to a good number of birds such as the red kite and the skylark.
