40 years - 40 natural reserves – Kiischpelt
The Fondation Hëllef fir d’Natur owns around 50 ha of land in the Kiischpelt region.
It is not just the diverse nature that makes this area interesting, but also its historical significance for Luxembourg’s leather industry. The oak coppices, which used to be essential for leather production, offer species-rich ecosystems within a small area, which is why the Fondation is committed to its preservation. A rare bird species that can be found here is the hazel grouse, which used to be quite common, but whose numbers have declined in recent years due to the disappearance of this kind of habitat. Our conservation efforts for heathlands also contribute to the preservation of ancient forms of land management, another mission of the Fondation.
