....the gloriously excessive 1984 collection that gave us Kenny Loggins, Deniece Williams, Bonnie Tyler and enough enormous choruses to power an aircraft hangar. We also preview Colleen Hoover adaptation Verity, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, and head 3,000 feet above Thailand for vertigo-inducing sequel Fall 2: Deadpoint.
At Kinepolis, Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to rule the Luxembourg box office ahead of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, with PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars and Insidious: Out of the Further completing a reassuringly normal selection of superheroes, dinosaurs, demons and post-apocalyptic survivors.
Movie news brings Brad Pitt back for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, Danny Boyle heads into Fleet Street with Ink, and we remember legendary Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen.
On the smaller screen, we give four stars to Lanterns, the surprisingly successful result of crossing True Detective with The X-Files and then allowing Scooby-Doo into the room. Tehran Season 3 gets three stars: still gripping, tense and dangerously bingeable despite increasingly ludicrous plot devices, triple-crosses and some uncomfortable political blind spots.
Elsewhere, Top Boy expands with two spin-offs, Netflix remembers Matthew Perry, and Hugo Weaving becomes the world’s most unconventional airport problem-solver in The Airport Chaplain.
Finally, gaming gives Mario’s greatest musical moments a jazz makeover, GTA VI sends listeners rushing towards everything from Depeche Mode to Cliff Richard, and PlayStation delivers another State of Play followed by the traditional internet argument about whether it was any good.
Throw in Show Tunes, another chance to win Kinepolis tickets and a decidedly less amusing Fun Film Fact involving Hollywood’s appalling old Running "W” horse stunt, and Episode 69 has everything covered - including the important historical lesson that banning dancing only makes Kenny Loggins stronger.
