Interview with Álvaro Soler
Sarah and the Latin pop sensation talk venues, vibes and electronic saisho-kotos
Álvaro Soler is a Spanish-German artist who was born near Barcelona and spent many of his formative years in Japan. He currently lives in Germany and achieved solo success more or less immediately out of university. After his first single, "El Mismo Sol," was a hit in Europe and Latin America, a bilingual Spanish/English version featuring Jennifer Lopez was released for international markets. Since then, Álvaro has released three full-length albums that draw on his unique background and span genres from Latin pop to reggaeton, dance and disco. Álvaro is a polyglot who would fit right in here in Luxembourg; in addition to Spanish, he speaks Catalan, German, English, Italian, French and Japanese. His multilingualism has opened up a number of opportunities: he was a coach on the X Factor in Italy and provided the voice of Camilo Madrigal in the Italian and German dubbed versions of the Disney film Encanto.
Sarah caught up with Álvaro over Zoom ahead of his show at LuxExpo the Box on May 24.
