Talking Music with Deadletter

George and Alfie discuss the new album Hysterical Strength, busking and something about chopping wood.
Hailing from Yorkshire but now based in London, Deadletter brings a fresh intensity to the post-punk landscape. The band consists of frontman Zac Lawrence, guitarists Will King and James Bates, bassist George Ullyott, drummer Alfie Husband, and saxophonist Poppy Richler.
They’ve spent the past couple of years building a loyal following, touring extensively across the UK and Europe playing festivals and some high profile support slots (They supported Placebo at Rockhal and played at Usina in 2023 as well as a headline show at Rotondes).
Their live shows have been described (by us) as visceral and intense, with Lawrence’s theatrical stage presence and the band’s tightly coiled musicianship keeping audiences on edge. This energy is unmistakably translated onto their debut album Hysterical Strength.
Catch up with Sam's chat with Alfie and George as they discuss the band's journey so far, talk about their plans for the future, look back at some memorable gigs, learn lessons from playing weddings and busking and get philosophical about chopping wood.
The band are set to play in Cologne, 29 October 2024 at GEBÄUDE 9.
