UNICEF City Run Returns to Luxembourg for a Family-Friendly Day of Fun and Fundraising

UNICEF Luxembourg is inviting runners, walkers, families and even dogs to take part in the second edition of its City Run, taking place on July 4 in Luxembourg City's Petrusse Valley. Designed to be accessible to everyone, the event focuses less on competition and more on community, with participants free to complete as many laps of the 1.3-kilometre course as they wish.

Speaking on RTL Today Radio with Steps and Maeve filling in on breakfast, UNICEF Luxembourg's Chief of Communications, Paul Heber, stressed that the event is about bringing people together in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, "You can walk, you can take your dog, you can take your kids, you can do as many laps as you want."

Alongside the run itself, visitors can enjoy live music, food and drink, children's activities, face painting and family entertainment throughout the day. There is no timing system, no pressure and no requirement to be an experienced runner, making the event suitable for all ages and fitness levels, "We're trying to create a festive atmosphere. You don't have to be a runner to take part."

While the day is designed to be fun, it also supports UNICEF's global work helping children around the world. Participants receive a personalised fundraising page that can be shared with friends and family to collect donations before the event, "On this particular day, we just try to have fun. At the same time, there's still a possibility to donate for children."

Heber acknowledged that humanitarian organisations are facing increasing challenges as global crises continue to multiply while available funding becomes more stretched, "It feels like the world is really on fire."

Despite the difficulties, he remains optimistic, drawing inspiration from the young people UNICEF works with every day, "Young people have this optimism. They feel like we'll solve these issues" Heber said.

The UNICEF City Run takes place on July 4, with the event village opening at 10:30am and the run beginning at midday. Registration remains open right up until the day itself, although those signing up early are more likely to secure one of the event's official UNICEF shirts.
