40 years - 40 natural reserves – Riedergrenn
Recent acquisitions in the Riedergrënn reserve have made it possible to save 11 ponds and pools.
Riedergrënn, literally the Roodt valley floor, is the name given to the valley of the Koulbicht brook, a tributary of the Attert, which has its source near Flatzbour.
After the first third of its course, it absorbs its left bank tributary, the Rennbach brook, with which it forms a typical Ardennes valley, strongly incised with a narrow alluvial valley floor. In the form of a Y, this watercourse digs its narrow valley over 5 km, almost directly from north to south, to leave the Ardennes at Petit-Nobressart. Hidden in the middle of a large forest, the ponds of this valley are particularly attractive for the reproduction, the development and the hibernation of amphibians. The shallow edges of the ponds are ideal for breeding birds.
Extensive pastures, alluvial meadows and alluvial forests complete the diversity of wetlands in the valley, which is particularly attractive for the black stork (ciconia nigra), for example.
Discover this unique valley by combining three trails: the Riedergrënn nature trail from Roodt, the self-guided trail from Rambrouch and the local trail Rambrouch 9. 25 km long, these trails cover the entire valley.
