"The institutional venues want you to pay for the ticket, watch the show and go home. I enjoy smaller gigs, where anything can happen"

Atmospheric post-rock jazz experimentation is the name of the game for Belgian outfit Under The Reef’s Orchestra, and in this interview we speak with founding-member Clement Nourry as he details life in a progressive band and how the industry has become less interesting as venues with character and history close at an alarming rate. Despite that, Clement is excited for the music scene in Brussels and is hopeful for a bright future for the coming generation of artists and musicians. Under The Reefs Orchestra’s latest LP, Sakurijima is a slow-burn delight, revealing its treasures on repeat listens, one-minute swaying here and there before darting off with a sharp-edged riff and then nestling into a spy flick soundtrack. Under The Reefs Orchestra are playing Kulturfabrik on Friday 27 January, and you should really check them out.
