“There are different gatekeepers in the industry now, the playlist people at the likes of Spotify have a lot of power”

Here, today, now, and also, I suppose, then, we are finishing up our chat with Simon Rix, yes, he of the flipping great Kaiser chiefs…not their new name btw… We talk on how having I Predict A Riot and Ruby hanging on to your coattails was not as wonderful as you think it might have been. Simon tells us that those same songs were refused many, many times before the band were eventually signed in an event that was not especially memorable. Simon informs us of how it was slightly easier to identify industry ‘gatekeepers’ a couple of decades previous and that a golf gig where Samuel L Jackson was in attendance, in the front row no less, needed to be saved by a well-known hit. In regard to new Chief’s music Simon will tell us that a new album IS on the way, but won’t tell us when that is, or what it is going to be called. The spoilsport.
